Protecting Your Wood Dining Tables Protects Your Investment

Your dining tables bring style and warmth to your home and they are an investment. To protect your investment and your wood tables you can use a very simple technique that is not costly and is fairly easy to do. This will keep your wood from damage over the years.

There are a few basic supplies you will need for the procedure that are easy to find. You will need a large cardboard box, one cloth tablecloth and one vinyl tablecloth, some packaging tape, a tape measure, a box cutter knife and a pencil.

Growing up my mother always used a padded table cover to protect her very expensive wood table from harm. That was admittedly a lot of years ago now but these pads are still available and can still be a very good idea. They can be ordered through the Internet or from mail order companies and are custom made for your table. This is one very good solution for protecting your table but it is a little costly.

There is a way to protect your table that is much more cost effective if you are able to put just a little time and effort into the project. The first things you will need to do for this procedure is take measurements of all the dimensions of your table top. Primarily you will need to write down the measurements for the width and also the length of the table top.

The cardboard box that you have should come from a very large object like a washing machine or refrigerator box. It needs to be dry and clean before you begin using it. Take your measuring tape and the pencil and mark the dimensions of the tabletop that you just wrote down. Use a straightedge and draw the outline of your table top. These are the lines you will cut so be sure you can see them well. You might want to do the cutting on the porch or patio so you don’t have to worry about cutting something under the cardboard. With the box cutter knife cut out along the lines you have drawn.

Laying this cut out piece of cardboard on the top of your dining table will serve as a pad to protect the wood from any possible nicks or dents and will serve as some insulation against any hot pan or pots that may be set on the table.

Now you can use the vinyl tablecloth to cover your cardboard table pad and then tape the edges of the vinyl tablecloth to the bottom side of the table to keep it from moving. This will be the protection you need if something is spilled on the table. There will always be little accidents that mean wet marks on your delicate wood table plus those annoying water rings from drinks.

Now that you have successfully protected the top of your dining table you can cover it with a stylish tablecloth. This should be sufficient to conceal the homemade table pad and the vinyl cloth. This is the simplest and most inexpensive method of protecting your dining tables.

Al Sharpton speaks out on race, rights and what bothers him about his critics

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 18-03-2019

Monday, December 3, 2007

At Thanksgiving dinner David Shankbone told his white middle class family that he was to interview Reverend Al Sharpton that Saturday. The announcement caused an impassioned discussion about the civil rights leader’s work, the problems facing the black community and whether Sharpton helps or hurts his cause. Opinion was divided. “He’s an opportunist.” “He only stirs things up.” “Why do I always see his face when there’s a problem?”

Shankbone went to the National Action Network’s headquarters in Harlem with this Thanksgiving discussion to inform the conversation. Below is his interview with Al Sharpton on everything from Tawana Brawley, his purported feud with Barack Obama, criticism by influential African Americans such as Clarence Page, his experience running for President, to how he never expected he would see fifty (he is now 53). “People would say to me, ‘Now that I hear you, even if I disagree with you I don’t think you’re as bad as I thought,'” said Sharpton. “I would say, ‘Let me ask you a question: what was “bad as you thought”?’ And they couldn’t say. They don’t know why they think you’re bad, they just know you’re supposed to be bad because the right wing tells them you’re bad.”

Chemical plant fire decimates Danvers, Massachusetts neighboorhood

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 18-03-2019

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

According to outgoing Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, an explosion that was “equivalent to a 2,000 lb. bomb” and registered 0.5 on the Richter scale decimated an area of Danvers and is also a “Thanksgiving miracle.”

The explosion occurred around 2:45 am EST, this morning in the Danversport area of Danvers, Massachusetts at the plant for solvent and ink manufacturer, CAI Inc. The explosion, which was caught on security camera and was heard up to over 25-50 miles away in southern Maine and New Hampshire.

The explosion damaged over 90 homes, blowing out windows and knocking some houses off their foundations. Officials believe that some of the more extensively damaged houses will have to be leveled and rebuilt. Some of the buildings damaged included a bakery, boats at a close by marina and the New England Home for the Deaf, an assisted-living facility for people who are deaf or deafblind and elderly residents requiring constant care. “These people are extremely fragile,” said state Rep. Ted Speliotis, D-Danvers, whose district includes the affected area. “Many of them have Alzheimer’s and other illnesses. It’s clear they can’t stay here long, but it’s clear they won’t be able to return for quite a while.”

Danvers Fire Chief James P. Tutko toured the area by helicopter and said many residents would be kept from their homes for the foreseeable future. “It looks like a war zone, that’s the only thing I can say,” Tutko said. When asked about the loss of no life at all, he responded “Somebody out there likes us.” Finally, he said that finding out the cause of the explosion would take days.

Outgoing governor Mitt Romney toured the area and said the explosion was a “Thanksgiving miracle” as the explosion was “equivalent to a 2,000 lb bomb going off in a residential neighborhood,” and that no one was killed and only about 10 people suffered only minor injuries in area that included over 300 residents. Residents of the area have been evacuated to the Danvers High School where temporary shelter has been set up by the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay. Donations are being taken for residents affected by the explosion. Residents are also being told to start filing insurance claims right away and to keep track of their expenses for items bought.

There were minor environmental concerns due to water runoff of chemicals. According the Environmental Protection Agency‘s on-scene coordinator Mike Nalipinski, preliminary tests showed low levels of toluene, a solvent, but said it was nothing of significance. Water runoff from the water used by firefighters left a purple sheen on the river and tests were being conducted. However, the water is not a local drinking water supply and the chemical evaporates quickly. Chief Tutko said there was no risk of toxic fumes getting into the air.

An Eastern Propane facility was also located near the area, however, it was not the source of the explosion. A spokesman for the company said that although the property suffered some minor damage, their tanks are secure.

According to WHDH television, a person who answered the telephone at CAI’s Georgetown, Massachusetts headquarters refused comment, and a telephone message left at the company president’s home was not immediately returned.

Leaked cables cause Australian concern

Leaked diplomatic cables between Australia and the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, have raised controversy in the Australian community. The documents were released by the whistle-blowing website Wikileaks. The cables between the then prime minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, and the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, revealed that China may need to be forced to integrate into the international community. The secret documents also contained information of a conversation between Clinton and Rudd in Washington. In the interview, Rudd stated that China was “paranoid” about Taiwan and Tibet.

The sensitive documents may place a strain on diplomatic relations between Australia and China. Despite this, Kevin Rudd reassured the public that the “robust” relationship between Australia and China wouldn’t sustain any substantial damage to the relations between the two countries. At this stage, Prime Minister Julia Gillard has provided no further comment on the matter, other than to ensure that the relationship between China and Australia would allow opinions to be expressed without any threat to either side.

At the heart of the leaks is Australian founder, Julian Assange. Wikileaks have now released 821 of their promised 251,287 US diplomatic cables. The cables are being released on a stage-by-stage basis. Earlier this week, Assange was arrested on suspicion of rape in London under a Swedish arrest warrant placed on him from a court in Stockholm on November 18.

American athlete Marion Jones tests positive for EPO

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 10-03-2019

Sunday, August 20, 2006

Correction — January 23, 2006 Cyclist Floyd Landis failed a drugs test for the hormone testesterone, not adrenaline as reported in the article.

Track Star Marion Jones, winner of 3 gold medals in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, has tested positive for the performance enhancing drug, EPO. The hormone helps create extra red blood cells which allows the user’s body to absorb extra oxygen.

Jones was expected to compete in yesterday’s Golden League meet in Zurich, Switzerland, but left early in the morning for “personal reasons.” It was announced earlier today (UTC) that she had tested positive for EPO. Jones faces a two year ban if her B test sample comes back positive.

Jones has a history of association with steroid users and dealers. In 1999, her then husband CJ Hunter tested positive for a similar drug, Nandralone. He had to withdraw from the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and received a two year ban.

Jones later divorced him, and in 2002 started a relationship with another track star, Tim Montgomery, who were both coached by Trevor Grahm.

Montgomery set a record in the 100 meter sprint of 9.78 seconds at a race in Paris that year. He was banned for two years and stripped of his record due to evidence in the Federal BALCO investigation. In the BALCO investigation, several witnesses stated that Marion Jones was taking banned substances received from BALCO.

Jones’ coach, Grahm, has been involved with 10 other athletes that tested positive and were ultimately banned for the use of illegal substances. Justin Gatlin, also coached by Grahm, also tested positive for artificial Testosterone, but has not been banned or stripped of his record.

Another American athlete, cyclist Floyd Landis tested positive for excessive levels of adrenaline after winning the Tour-de-France, which may lead to him being the first winner in the tournament’s history to be stripped of the title.

Afghan president Hamid Karzai opens new terminal at Kabul International Airport

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 09-03-2019

Friday, November 7, 2008

Hamid Karzai, president of Afghanistan, has opened a new terminal at Kabul International Airport. The US$35m (£22m) two-story structure was gifted by Japan as the old terminal building had become badly damaged by decades of war.

Speaking at the event, attended by 150 Afghan and Japanese officials, Karzai expressed his gratitude for the building, saying “Afghanistan could not have made this terminal on its own for many years or without lots of effort.” The new terminal is built next to the original sixties building, which had been considered luxurious when new but has fallen into decline, especially after the 1979 Soviet invasion and the civil war which followed.

Increasing numbers of military aircraft joined the commercial passenger planes, making Kabul International a frequent target of rocket attacks. It was in a poor state of repair, as well as outdated and in need of expansion, by the time the Taliban were ousted from Afghanistan.

Karzai implored his people to take proper care of the new terminal, which Afghan officials described as a step along the route to reconstruction after the Taliban were deposed.

“I hope, now this facility has been handed over to us, that our sisters and brothers, those in charge of the airport, the passengers passing through, the state officials and MPs using it, will look after it and they should not allow, God forbid, that we come here after a year and find its windows, doors and tiles broken,” he said.

The building will enter service next week, in time to carry passengers to Saudi Arabia for the annual pilgrimage of the Hajj. It has a capacity of one million passengers every year, and will service both domestic and international routes.

Look for the right company

There are plenty of early childhood furniture manufacturersout there but not all of them will be a good match for your project, budget and needs. Be sure to look for the right one. Start by…

Determine length of experience

Don’t fall for manufacturers that have little to zero experience in the field. It’s best to consider manufacturers that have decades-long experience. That’s going to give them the edge over the rest of their competition. If you want to make sure engage the services of the right companies, ask about experience.

Check out credentials

Don’t forget to dig into the company’s background and check out its credentials. What kind of qualifications does the company have? What makes them a good option for your project and needs? You’ll want to ask these questions before you go any further.

Know the return policy

Before you pick one out of the many early childhood furniture manufacturers out there, be sure to read through the return policy first. Have a clear understanding of the terms and conditions of the contract, chapter and verse. That way, in case there’s a window for returns or if there are extra charges to be paid like restocking fees you’ll know right away and you can easily prepare for it.

Consider customer service

If problems and issues spring up, the last thing you want is to deal with inept customer service representatives. You’ll want to pick a manufacturer that offers impressive levels of customer service and assistance by being helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

London, England — As Paralympians ready for the Games which are set to open later this week, they have access to a world class fitness center inside the Paralympic Village which is designed to maximise their pre-Game preparations.

According to volunteers staffing the center, instead of being a single large room, as in Beijing, the building has numerous rooms. Gym equipment is supplied by Technogym, an Italian firm that has supplied gym equipment for the Olympics since 2000. Equipment has been provided not just for for the Fitness Centre, but for gyms at all the Olympic venues. The newest equipment is oriented toward maximum flexibility, allowing athletes to exercise the particular muscles that they most require for their sport.
