Countless families take advantage residential recycling services. They fill the small bins they are provided with plastic bottles, glass jars, cardboard and aluminum cans to be whisked away to the local recycling center. This cuts down on the amount of actual trash to be picked up and offers environmental benefits by reducing the amount of waste in landfills.

Recycling can be done on a much larger scale too. Businesses such as stores, warehouses, automotive recycling yards and many more may recycle concrete, asphalt, cardboard and dirt on an industrial scale. Clark NJ Garbage Removal services provide large bins for such purposes.

U.S. President Obama’s farewell address focuses on accomplishment

Thursday, January 12, 2017

United States President Barack Obama gave his official farewell address on Tuesday night from McCormick Place in Chicago, reflecting on personal and national accomplishments. This is expected to be his last major speech before officially handing the reins to president-elect Donald Trump on January 20.

“Its why GIs gave their lives at Omaha Beach and Iwo Jima; Iraq and Afghanistan – and why men and women from Selma to Stonewall were prepared to give theirs as well.”

Obama’s speech was wide-ranging. He thanked his family and the nation, spoke of the need for unity, noted the country’s accomplishments and need for improvement in areas like education and civil rights, and spoke about the need for pride in U.S. accomplishments, citing milestones of U.S. history and of his presidency specifically. “It’s why GIs gave their lives at Omaha Beach and Iwo Jima; Iraq and Afghanistan – and why men and women from Selma to Stonewall were prepared to give theirs as well.”

The president also addressed his country’s troubled history with race and racism, an issue many black citizens feel he has avoided. Despite this, Chauncy Devega of Salon described the president as “a role model of calm, cool reflective black masculinity: a man utterly at home in his own skin.” Obama described the concept of a post-racial U.S. “unrealistic” and particularly cited the need for reform in education and the criminal justice system and greater acceptance of scientific evidence, particularly evidence supporting action to counteract climate change.

However, publications including The Washington Post and Salon have given particular focus to another aspect of the president’s address: the country’s increasing political tensions and controversies involving access to news and information, both accurate and inaccurate. “We become so secure and our bubbles,” said Obama, “that we start accepting only information, whether it’s true or not, that fits our opinions instead of basing our opinions on the evidence that is out there,” calling this trend “a third threat to our democracy.”

The Washington Post characterized Obama’s comment, “If every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and an undeserving minority, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves,” as a “not-so-subtle jab” at the campaign tactics of President-elect Donald Trump. The Telegraph describes Obama’s warnings about the need to protect democracy as “a thinly veiled slight to the divisive rhetoric of Donald Trump’s election campaign, which included attacks on Muslims, the disabled, women and immigrants.” The president went on to call on the public to “reject the first dawning of every attempt to alienate any portion of our country from the rest or to enfeeble the sacred ties that make us one America. We weaken those ties when we allow our political dialogue to become so corrosive […] We weaken those ties when we define some of us as more American than others when we write off the whole system as inevitably corrupt and when we sit back and blame the leaders we elect without examining our own role in electing them. It falls to each of us to be those anxious, jealous guardians of our democracy.”

Despite this, when the mention of Donald Trump brought boos from the crowd, Obama reiterated the importance of the long history of peaceful transfers of power from one president to the next: “No no no no no. […] I committed to President-elect Trump that my administration would ensure the smoothest possible transition, just as President Bush did for me.” However, this was not unaccompanied by a call to action. Near the end of the speech, he insisted citizens dissatisfied with elected officials should “lace up your shoes, grab a clipboard, get some signatures and run for office yourself.”

Overall, the departing president’s speech focused on accomplishment, echoing the “Yes we can” slogan from his 2008 campaign: “If I have told you eight years ago, that America would reverse a great recession, reboot our auto industry, and unleash the longest stretch of job creation in our history. If I had told you, that we would open up a new chapter with the Cuban people, shut down Iran’s nuclear weapons program without firing a shot, take out the mastermind of 9/11[…] If I had told you that we would win a marriage equality and secure the right to health insurance for another twenty million of our fellow citizens. If I had told you all that, you might have said our sights were set a little too high. But that’s what we did.”

But when the crowd began shouting “Four more years! Four more years!” Obama, with a small laugh, answered, “I can’t do that.”

For many of the men and women of the Armed Forces, moving around on a regular basis is a normal occurrence. Although moving is commonplace for these people, it is still a process that causes a lot of stress and worry. There are a number of ways a member of the military can make their moving experience easier, and among the most effective is a portable storage building. In most cases, there will be a number of companies that provide this type of portable storage, which will require a person to do some research. The following are a couple of the benefits that come with using Military Portable Storage.

Storage Out the Back Door

One of the first benefits that come with using this type of portable storage is that it can be placed right outside of a home. This means that the moving process will be much easier due to the proximity of the storage unit. Make sure to call around in an area to see which company will be able to get the unit needed to deliver the fastest. The more a homeowner is able to find out about the companies in their area, the easier it will be for them to choose the right one.

Ready to Move to the New Home

Another advantage that comes with using a portable storage unit is the fact it will be easily moved to the new residence when needed. This will help to make the moving process much easier and faster. In some cases, using a portable storage building will help to eliminate the need for a moving truck. The money saved on renting a moving truck can be spent on buying things for the new home. Make sure to call around in the area to decide which storage company is the most cost effective.

At Zippy Shell Greater Columbus, getting the right Military Portable Storage will be easy due to the number of options they have. By choosing them, getting the right storage options will be a breeze. Call them or go to their website to find out more information on what they have to offer.

Hundreds of SUNY New Paltz students demonstrate, storm administration building

Saturday, October 22, 2005

New Paltz, New York — More than 350 U.S. students took part in a demonstration Friday outside the SUNY New Paltz Student Union Building where student leaders used a bullhorn from the rooftop to rally the gathering on the concourse below. University police dispersed student leaders from the roof which was followed by more than 100 students storming the Haggerty Administration Building (HAB).

During the 2004–2005 academic year, students lobbied for a $10 million renovation project for their Student Union Building, which has not been renovated since its construction more than 30 years ago.

HAB spokesman Eric Gullickson said that the supplemental appropriation for the project is the largest in the history of the college and that the six-member advisory committee includes three students but that; “the Student Association, which was offered the first seat on this committee, declined the opportunity,” Gullickson said.

Student leaders, including Student Body President R.J. Partington III and Student Senate ChairJustin Holmes, who played a role in organizing this demonstration, testified during the Spring 2005 semester before the New York State Assembly Committee on Higher Education, eventually winning the renovation project. Holmes says that Gullickson’s assertions are; “an out-and-out lie. The SA was never offered such a seat. We were offered 1 seat on a seven seat committee, with the administration selecting the other six members.”

The major arguments for a capital project on the Student Union Building were that it:

 • did not accommodate organizations and organization office needs
 • lacked crucial technology for student mobilization
 • was built for a student population less than half the size of 2005, and
 • was one of the longest standing Student Unions in the SUNY system which had not undergone a renovation

During the Fall 2005 semester the HAB claimed that it would oversee the renovation project, citing the need for a larger lobby and bookstore.

The Kingston Daily Freeman reported:

The crystallizing issue for the demonstration was the upcoming $10 million renovation of the Student Union building. The renovation, scheduled to begin in about two years, will be the first major change to the building since it was built 34 years ago, according to college spokesman Eric Gullickson, who said the supplemental appropriation for the project in the state budget is the largest in the college’s history.

Gullickson also said that a six-member committee had been formed to guide the design process, but student leaders, including Partington, were told that the proposed committee would be seven members, including four non-students and two students who were appointed by the HAB.

“No matter the size and makeup of the HAB’s so-called renovation committee, it has nothing to do with the actual renovation process, which will be administered by a student committee, with input from other parties of course considered,” responded Holmes.

During the Fall 2005 semester, Student Body President R.J. Partington III attempted to negotiate with Administrators, including HAB President Steven G. Poskanzer, over the project.

The HAB refused to concede to student demands.

At this point, the Student Senate passed legislation proclaiming that the project would be overseen by a committee where students constitute a majority, and Partington announced that he “did not recognize and would not sit on” any committee that did not meet the needs of students.

Vice President of Acacdemic Affairs & Governance, Stephanie Adika said, “If the HAB won’t even listen to us about our own building, how are they going to listen to us about all the other problems the students have with SUNY New Paltz.”

20 confirmed dead after Kintampo freak tree accident

A freak accident caused twenty deaths and some injuries, according to officials, at the well-known Kintampo waterfall, in Ghana, on Sunday afternoon local time. Those affected were reportedly school students from Wenchi Senior High School on a supervised trip, and several tourists, who were swimming at the time of a rainstorm and strong winds, bringing down a tree and crushing victims.

Eighteen students, according to Ghana National Fire Service spokesman Prince Billy Anaglate, were killed at the falls, while another two were rushed to hospital and died in care. Varying reports indicated possibly up to 18 people remaining in a critical condition who were trapped under the tree, who were then rescued and rushed to hospital, including a Wenchi Senior High School administrator.

Anaglate said the wind uprooted trees, which fell on swimmers.

Students’ bodies have been sent to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital’s morgue.

Home-invaders pose as NYC police

Monday, July 16, 2007

In two separate incidents, men posing as members of the New York Police Department (NYPD), have invaded homes in the New York City area. In both cases, they robbed the residents, but in the most recent, they sexually assaulted a woman.

On Saturday, July 14, at 1:09 a.m. EDT (UTC-4), four men knocked on the door of a Yonkers, New York, apartment. The 33-year-old male that lives there opened the door, as the men outside wore NYPD hats and t-shirts, and had badges hanging around their necks.

The men promptly ordered the male victim to the floor. “When this guy pushed me, he had a gun in my face,” the victim said. “I could see the other guy. He motioned to the others, come on, let’s go, let’s go.” The intruders shouted “Where are the drugs?” as they ransacked the apartment.

Two of the men entered the bedroom and sexually assaulted the 30-year-old female. The couple has a five-year-old child, who was sleeping in another bedroom. “The more I resisted, the more he began to hit me,” the woman said. She said she was sexually assaulted by two of the men while her boyfriend was bound and guarded.

Frightened. Make you think twice before you want to open the door, you know

Police said the men then left with a cell phone, a laptop computer, a diamond ring and a gold chain. Police do not believe that they were real officers. As of this afternoon, no arrests have been made.

On Thursday, July 5, shortly after six p.m. in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn five men knocked on the door claiming to be “the police.” When the victims opened the door, they pushed their way in demanding the family give them drugs and money.

When police responded to a call reporting a robbery, they found the family, husband, wife and their daughter, tied up. The man suffered a head injury when he was pistol-whipped. Police say the robbers got away with a camera, jewelry, and US$5,000 in currency.

Neighbors told NY1 that they were stunned. “Frightened. Make you think twice before you want to open the door, you know,” said one of the neighbors. “Now you be asking for all this ID and stuff and even still you’re going to wonder, are they for real? So it’s kind of scary.”

There is no word about whether the two cases are connected. Yonkers is on the border of New York City, but is outside the jurisdiction of the NYPD.

Collect Metals For Easy Recycling Using A Dumpster In Ct

Filed Under (Mining And Drilling) by on 13-03-2018

byAlma Abell

Waste and debris are quickly becoming a major issue, and part of the problem is how much of this stuff ends up in the local landfill. The sad thing about this is the fact that much of the rubbish that enters the dump can be recycled. For instance, most paper, plastic and glass products are recyclable and practically all kinds of metal. Recycling just requires someone to make the effort to get these wasted materials to a recycling center. One way to handle this issue is a Dumpster CT. Using the dumpster to store the debris until a sizable load is accumulated can offset the expense of picking it up.

One thing about recycling that most people either don’t know or have forgotten is that these materials have value, especially metal. This is one reason so many automobile junkyards strips and recycles damaged vehicles. Once the quickly moving items are in the warehouse, the remainder is crushed for easier shipping to a smelter. Recycling other metals like a scrap from a machine shop can be just as rewarding, and businesses such as Calamari Recycling Co Inc. can help with both the recycling and collection aspects of this issue.

If someone mentions that recycling is not worth the effort, it is easy to set them straight. Just remember that recycled metals can save energy and provide them with a few figures. For example, aluminum can save up to 95 percent of the energy used for making this metal from raw ores. Copper is another favorite with an 85 percent savings and steel can range from 50 to 75 percent in energy savings. All of this effort will also reduce the carbon footprint of the country, and future generations will appreciate the effort. The expenses can be limited by using a Dumpster CT for containing the metals to be recycled.

Keep in mind that recycling provides other benefits such as reducing the number of mines used to access ores and reserving these ores for future generations. However, some benefits of recycling may be seen in the near future, and this can include less garbage in the landfills, lower carbon emissions, and better air quality. Whether it’s for a lifted diesel-powered 4×4 or a compact car, a trailer hitch will always be an important equipment to use in towing a load. It’s crucial to get the proper tow-setup for the vehicle and that’s why we will discuss in this section how to use trailer hitches Fargo, ND shops sell along with the various kinds of trailer hitch setups.

If you have a small vehicle, your towing capabilities will be lower compared to when you have a truck. You must first know the towing capabilities of your vehicle. You will find such information mentioned inside the owner’s manual for your vehicle. The majority of the cars can safely tow over 3,000 pounds of weight and some of the trucks can tow up to 30,000 pounds of load. The next thing you should know when choosing trailer hitches Fargo, ND shops sell is the amount of weight you will tow. If you can’t figure out the exact weight of the load, you can try doing an estimate in proportion to the specifications set by the manufacturer of your vehicle. If you can’t do an estimate, you can seek help and tow the load to a certain scale in order to obtain the exact weight of the load.

It’s crucial for you to keep in mind that the safety of your towing activity will involve a number of important factors: not only must your vehicle carry the load safely, it must also go at a safe speed and it must be capable of controlling the load. The brakes are equally if not more essential as the engine’s torque and horsepower because there’s a chance that the vehicle won’t stop is the load is too heavy. So you have to assess the present condition of your car or truck’s brakes prior to installing trailer hitches Fargo, ND trucks need.

Were the brakes properly maintained? When did you last change the brake fluid? The last thing you need while towing a heavy load is a braking system that would fail on you in the middle of crowded traffic. You must also think in advance where you will be driving the load. Will you be towing uphill or downhill? Are the winds strong on those parts? Will the surface be wet or dry? How much traffic must you go through before reaching your destination? To ensure the safety of your towing activity, you need to answer all these questions before embarking on your towing project. You must know what you will be dealing with and what kind of load you will be carrying. If you do this, you’d have a much better chance of having a safe and successful towing activity with quality trailer hitches Fargo, ND shops provide.

Armstrong announces retirement from professional cycling

Monday, April 18, 2005

At a press conference Monday, Lance Armstrong announced his intention to retire from professional cycling after going for his 7th Tour de France title in July 2005.

“Ultimately, athletes have to retire,” said the 33 year-old American. “The body doesn’t just keep going and going.”

Speculation on the retirement of the six-time Tour de France winner had been growing in recent months. The Texan had hinted at wanting to spend more time with his children and his cancer charity, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. There was talk he may marry his well-known girlfriend, rock-star singer Sheryl Crow.

Armstrong battled with testicular cancer in 1996 before coming back to win the 1999 edition of the legendary French race. He went on to win the next five Tours de France and is now widely regarded as one of the greatest riders in the history of the sport.

Asked about his chances for Tour success, he expressed hope tempered with praise for his opponents. “Can I win this year? I’m not sure, but I’ll try… This will be a different year for the Tour with Jan Ullrich looking better and a host of young riders coming up,” he said.

Should Armstrong follow through with his plans, he will begin his final race in the United States tomorrow at the first stage of the Tour de Georgia. He has successfully used the springtime race in the past as a tune-up to the Tour de France in the summer. The contract with his new team sponsor, the Discovery Channel, obligates him to compete in one more Tour de France.
