What Is The Right Insurance Plan For My Family?

Filed Under (Insurance) by Admin on 28-06-2022

Choosing The Right Life Insurance PlanInterested in buying permanent life insurance, but afraid you may not buy the right policy that would fit your personal situation? Buying insurance is like renting a product to help you financially in case something unexpected happens. Most permanent life insurance includes universal, variable, and whole life insurance. These policies hold a value that fits most individuals’ needs. Here are some tips to help you find the policy that will fit your lifestyle and family needs.Evaluate your families lifestyle and needs when determining the amount of life insurance you purchase. Everyone has individual life needs that will need to be addressed in the event of a family death. You must make sure that the amount of coverage is enough to care for your loved ones should this occur.Pay your premiums promptly. If the holder fails to pay the monthly premium on their insurance term, or if they decide to stop making payments before the whole life plan gains any value, they will lose the policy. They will also be forced to get a new policy and the new policy could be more expensive. This can especially be true if they have aged or fallen into poor health since their policy payments stopped.Compare your group life insurance against other policies. Group life policies, usually provided by your employer, may not always be the least expensive option. The rates are set based on averages — average age, average health and other important risk factors that may not apply to you. If you have excellent health, shop around to see if you can get better rates elsewhere.Term life insurance is a more affordable option for life insurance. It only covers you for a set period of years; it is usually sold for 10, 20, or 30 year periods. A term life insurance policy is usually much less expensive than a whole life insurance policy per month.Buy the right amount of life insurance to cover all of your living expenses and specified needs. Skimping on life insurance is not a good idea. Term insurance, especially, is very affordable, so make sure you get as much insurance as you need. As a rule of thumb, consider buying insurance that equals approximately 6 to 10 times your income. If you are considering purchasing whole life insurance, keep in mind that this insurance is more expensive, but it will cover your entire life span. If you live to be 100 years of age, you will still have coverage to benefit your family left behind after your death. A term life policy is effective only for a determined amount of time and will expire eventually. Keep in mind, a term life policy is usually less expensive and more affordable than a whole-life insurance policy, and you have the option to renew once the policy runs out.A convertibility feature is a helpful tool. It will allow you to convert your policy to a permanent one if you need one. You just have to make sure you do this before your term expires. This will let you keep your policy, and ease some stress in your life.Keep an eye out for an independent insurance agency that will really care about your needs and watch out for you. There are some life insurance companies that will offer competitive rates for some medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease and cancer). These companies are much more family friendly and don’t just put everyone in a group. Their charge is based off of what you really need. When considering a life insurance policy, be sure to do a great deal of shopping around. Some insurance providers can be more competitive price-wise due to the mass amounts of people they insure. There is also a good deal of difference on the ability of an insurer to guarantee they will be around fifty years later to pay out when it is needed. When considering life insurance, be sure to look outside of what your employer provides. While this may be easier and you may assume they are providing what is best for you, it is not always the case. It is a good solid idea to buy a life insurance policy outside of what is provided by your employer as you can’t take life insurance that is employer provided should you lose your job, find another job, etc. Make sure that they rates and coverage are competitive or better than other offers that you could go with.Did you know? If a relative of yours recently died and named you as the beneficiary on his life insurance policy, but the policy itself is missing, there are steps you can take to locate the policy, even if you don’t know which insurance company issued it. Examine the deceased’s canceled checks for any that were written to insurance companies. Look through any mail you can find for insurance bills or policy status notices. Check with former employers or organizations that the deceased belonged to which may have offered the policy. Look at tax returns for expenses or interest earned in regard to life insurance. Finally, check with the Medical Information Bureau, which has a database that can inform you if the medical records of the deceased were requested by any insurance companies since 1996.Having to think about the possibilities of something unfortunate happening to you is uncomfortable and can be very stressful. However, it is an important financial decision that should be made in order to protect your family and their future. Investing the effort and time to learn all of your options and choosing your policy will in the long run make everyone feel a lot safer and will provide you with peace of mind (the decrease in stress carries the added benefit of increasing your life expectancy).

Thousands protest privatisation of Australian electricity industry

In New South Wales today, thousands of people joined a protest including 15 Labor Members of Parliament about the State Government’s plans to privatise the electricity industry.

The MPs included Paul Gibson, Upper House president Peter Primrose, and former MPs Kerry Hickey and Grant McBride.

Mr Gibson was reported as saying, “I’m a member of the Australian Labor Party and I’m sticking to the Labor platform and policy.”

The Government seems to have ignored the positions of the protesters, with Premier Morris Iemma expressing to the first sitting of Parliament for 2008 that his Government’s plans would proceed.

Related instances in Tamworth occurred, when workers in the Electricity Trade Union walked off the job.

Getting even with the law: Wikinews interviews New York City’s ‘Jimmy Justice’

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 26-06-2022

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

“What bothers me is watching an officer write someone a summons and then commit the exact same violation with their official vehicle.

A civilian known as ‘Jimmy Justice’ who resides in New York City (NYC), New York, the largest city in the United States, has been videotaping NYC police officers and city workers, breaking the law while on the job.

Since 2007, he claims to have caught “hundreds of officers and other city employees violating the law,” and says he has them all on camera. He has posted his best confrontations with them to the video sharing website YouTube. As a result, Justice states that he has been asked to do a United States television show and Wikinews got an exclusive interview with him. For protection, Justice wished not to be called by his real name in fear of police retaliation.

Last year, Justice videotaped a police officer parking in front of a fire hydrant, but has only recently gained attention on social networking news sites such as Digg and reddit.com. So Wikinews contacted Mr. Justice, known as JimmyJustice4753 on YouTube, for an exclusive interview to find out what caused him to get revenge on the law.

On June 30, 2007, Justice caught officer E. Anderson of the NYPD, traffic division, parking directly in front of a fire hydrant while she went inside a restaurant to take a 15 minute lunch break.

“Do you think there is something wrong with parking a vehicle, blocking a fire hydrant,?” says Justice while following Anderson to her car after her meal.

“Mrs. Anderson I’m talking to you,” says Justice as Anderson ignores him. “You parked your vehicle blocking a fire hydrant. You are not allowed to do that. Somebody else would get a ticket for that. Why are you allowed to do it? You should be ashamed of yourself Mrs. Anderson.”

By this time, the incident has gained the interest of people nearby the scene and passing it. One unidentified woman, who claims to be a retired NYC police officer decides to intervene stating that people “are not supposed to film any police, [or] anybody employed with the police department because of the terrorism.” A short time later the woman walked off camera.

Since 2007 Justice says he has caught “hundreds of law enforcement officers and city officials” on “over 30 hours of video” violating laws from illegal U-turns in business districts to blocking bus stops and fire hydrants. Justice has only uploaded the “most colorful ones to YouTube” and recently, on April 8, 2008, Justice videotaped a NYPD tow truck officer blocking a hydrant while he also ate lunch inside a restaurant. According to NYC law, it is illegal for any vehicle to park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant and to park in front of a bus stop. It is also illegal for any person to make a U-turn in a business district. Fines for these violations can cost a driver up to US$115.00 for each violation occurred.

When Wikinews asked Justice why he decided to start filming the violations made by officials he answered, “what bothers me is watching an officer write someone a summons and then commit the exact same violation with their official vehicle. I started making these videos to remind the officers (and complacent civilians) that City employees have to abide by the same laws that they are paid to enforce. I plan on doing this and inspiring others to do this as well as a means of leveling the playing field against discourteous officers.”

“In NYC, the traffic cops are notorious for their draconian indiscretion in handing out summonses to civilians for petty violations. Obviously the laws are not enforced as a matter of public safety, but rather to raise revenue,” added Justice.

Justice makes little effort to get the violations on videotape saying “all I have to do to catch them is open my eyes.”

“The problem with abuse of authority is rampant in New York City. I take my video camera with me on the way to work and on the way to social events and band rehearsals and when I see action it takes me less than 4 seconds to have the camera out and in record mode,” states Justice.

His videos have drawn the attention of media and he has been featured on ABC’s ‘I-caught videos’ and Inside Edition. Justice also states that the popularity of his videos have gotten the attention producers in Hollywood, California and as a result, there are plans for a television show.

Since Justice began getting even with officials and their violations, he states that there has been a positive change in the communities.

“The publicity my videos have received has effected positive change in the community, but we still have a long road ahead of us,” added Justice.

As a result of his videos, at the time the NYPD launched an investigation into the violations, but it is not known if any officers were charged or punished. Justice himself has never been arrested, but has been assaulted.

“I have never been arrested for this yet but they have threatened me with arrest. I have been spit on, cursed at, assaulted, and I had 2 cameras broken already,” added Justice.

Australian Home Builders face Turmoil

by

Kevin Jeffersons

The construction of houses was the work of many Australians. People bought homes for their families because of these builders humble. Affordable, durable, tightly designed, cozy and the buildings were. Home builders, themselves, are also satisfied because they are covered by insurance. With insurance, builders are confident that whatever incidents may occur, he can seek medical attention and have the means to acquire such medical attention.

But home builders in Australia can not find the industry to be always profitable. There are times when they do not receive the kind of protection they need. Today it is happening. Home Builders now find it hard to get insurance companies to cover them. Recently, insurance companies have withdrawn believe that the company is not profitable enough. If this continues, what will become of the home builders? And he seems to have a ripple effect. What would be the effect on the rest of Australians who want to get their dream homes? Problems in each sector are inevitable. They are present in nature. This particular situation of the Australian home builders may be a natural occurrence. But it seems that it is not something that should be undone. Home Builders rely on insurance to cover them for all events that may occur when you are at work. The building is so dangerous job and home builders definitely need insurance. Here begins the problem. Home builders need protection against accidents. That is why they turn to insurance companies to buy premium. However, this year, a number of insurance companies have withdrawn their investments, since you can not find much more profitable. A home builder has 38 ongoing projects in Karratha. However, they can not get insurance to other insurance companies. When these builders are not insured, they can not work on their projects. And if that happens, many people will suffer. On the other hand, the families of these builders will experience financial difficulties. Since there are no housing projects, the income of the family will be lessened. In fact, everyone has to adjust. Secondly, Australians who want to build their homes in search of finding it difficult to home builders. And since the housing decline in hardware revenue will also drop. Demand for construction materials will also follow. Ultimately, this will affect the national economy. What can government do to help home builders in Australia? He has the power to withdraw the mandatory life insurance is insurance needed by the home builders. This means that even if they don’t have insurance, they can still pursue their projects. Another thing that can be done is for the government to persuade insurers to take on the home builders. After all, these Australian home builders can afford to pay their premiums. If this problem is not taken care of, the effects will surely be widespread.

Wikinews interviews Democratic candidate for the Texas 6th congressional district special election Daryl Eddings, Sr’s campaign manager

Tuesday, April 20, 2021

Wikinews extended invitations by e-mail on March 23 to multiple candidates running in the Texas’ 6th congressional district special election of May 1 to fill a vacancy left upon the death of Republican congressman Ron Wright. Of them, the office of Democrat Daryl Eddings, Sr. agreed to answer some questions by phone March 30 about their campaigns and policies. The following is the interview with Ms Chatham on behalf of Mr Eddings, Sr.

Eddings is a federal law enforcement officer and senior non-commissioned officer in the US military. His experience as operations officer of an aviation unit in the California National Guard includes working in Los Angeles to control riots sparked by the O. J. Simpson murder case and the police handling of Rodney King, working with drug interdiction teams in Panama and Central America and fighting in the Middle East. He is the founder of Operation Battle Buddy, which has under his leadership kept in touch with over 20 thousand veterans and their families. He was born in California, but moved to Midlothian, Texas. He endeavours to bring “good government, not no government”. Campaign manager Faith Chatham spoke to Wikinews on matters ranging from healthcare to housing.

An Inside Elections poll published on March 18 shows Republican candidate Susan Wright, the widow of Ron Wright, is ahead by 21% followed by Democrat Jana Sanchez with 17% and Republican Jake Ellzey with 8% with a 4.6% margin of error among 450 likely voters. The district is considered “lean Republican” by Inside Elections and voted 51% in favour of Donald Trump in last year’s US presidential election. This is down from 54% for Trump in 2016’s presidential election, the same poll stated.

Neanderthals ‘knew what they were doing’: Archæologist Dr Naomi Martisius discusses her findings about Neanderthals’ behaviour with Wikinews

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 21-06-2022

Sunday, June 28, 2020

Last month, a study conducted by archæologist Dr. Naomi Martisius and other researchers concluded Neanderthals living in Europe tens of thousands of years ago were more sophisticated than previously thought. The now-extinct species used to carefully select bones from a particular animal species to manufacture their bone tools, the research showed. The research was published on May 8 in Nature’s Scientific Reports journal.

Dr Martisius and her team used five bone tools discovered from Neanderthals’ sites in southwest France for this research. Four of these bone tools were found in a site called Abri Peyrony and the other one was from Pech-de-l’Azé I. These tools were just a few centimetres in size and were about 50 thousand years old, Dr Martisius told Wikinews. Microscopy analysis of these bone tools called lissoirs (smoothers) suggested Neanderthals used these tools for working animal skin to leathers.

The study stated the fauna of the sites were primarily medium-sized ungulates such as reindeer, in one layer nearly 90%. Despite the overabundance of medium-sized ungulates, Neanderthals used ribs of large bovids for making lissoirs. Dr Martisius told Wikinews this was likely due to the physical characteristics of the bovid ribs, which were “thicker” and “stronger” as compared to the “thin and flimsy ribs” of reindeers. In order to check the origins of the bone tools, the researchers used a technology called non-destructive Zooarchæology by Mass Spectrometry (ZooMS).

Instead of damaging the bone artefacts in order to discover its origins, the researchers collected collagen from the plastic containers in which these artefacts were kept. Collagen is a type of protein. These bone artefacts were kept in plastic containers: some were kept for about five years, some for just a few months. During this time, the collagen proteins from bone tools were stuck to the walls of its plastic containers. The collagen samples collected from the walls of the containers are broken into smaller molecules called peptides by using a chemical enzyme called trypsin.

After the trypsin has broken collagen fibres into peptides, it is analysed using a technology called Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer (ToF MS). The assisting matrix is a coloured compound. The acidic peptide is combined with the matrix, vapourised, and peptides are released. Some of them are positively-charged particles which travel across a vacuum tube in an electric field. Depending on the weight of the peptides, these molecules reach the end of the vacuum tube at different instances of time, forming a spectrum. These graphs are like unique fingerprints of a species: they are different for different species of animals. Looking at the database of such graphs, taxonomic identifications of the collagen proteins came be made.

All four bone tools from Abri Peyrony gave positive results and showed that the bones were made from large bovids, even though reindeer were more abundant during that time. One of the advantages of using bovid ribs over reindeer’s thin ribs was the bovid ribs would be more resistant to breaking during flexion, Dr Martisius said.

Dr Martisius said such non-destructive ZooMS analysis was previously conducted, but for tools no older than a few centuries. She said such an analysis had never been previously conducted for artefacts so ancient.

Wikinews caught up with Dr Martisius to discuss this research in-depth.

Check These Dos And Donts For Selecting A Small Business Cpa!

Filed Under (Research And Development Consultancy) by Admin on 21-06-2022

Every business needs a CPA. Period. More often than not, startup founders and small business entrepreneurs look for ways to save money, and in the process, they end up hiring the wrong accounting firm. In this post, we give you a list of do’s and don’ts that you must follow for selecting a small business CPA.

Don’t Rush:

Take your time to understand the accounting needs of your company. Not all accountants are CPAs, but all CPAs are accountants. Small and medium sized businesses don’t always need a full-time CPA, but it also depends on the kind of operations they have. For example, if you deal with a large amount of cash sales every day, you may need a small business CPA within the workplace at all times. Otherwise, you need a team that can keep your accounting, tax and compliance needs in check.

Do Hire a Known Firm:

An accounting firm that specializes in small business accounting must have enough clients in the niche. Ask them about the range of projects they have managed so far, and whether they are willing to share references on request. A CPA firm that’s knowledgeable, experienced and well-reputed in the industry should be your first choice, and as discussed, do ask for client details and seek details of their active projects.

Don’t Ignore Experience:

When it comes to accounting, nothing matters more than experience. You need a company that’s well versed to the norms of the industry and understands the accounting practices and compliance matters. They must have relevant experience with IRS and must have handled similar clients in the recent past. Their team should be able to explain what they can do for your company in particular and how their presence can change the overall game for your business.

Do Ask About Their Team:

An accounting firm is managed and run by many professionals. You need know who are working on your project and whether they will be available to take questions and tasks as and when required. Knowing the core team is an absolute necessity, because they can make or break things when it comes to tax preparation and compliance matters.

Don’t Select the Cheapest Firm:

You may be on a small budget, and you cannot the afford best CPA in business, at least look for an option that’s worthy of your business. Check online, where you can find more details on ratings and can also read reviews from other customers. Nevertheless, do get a budget in advance, so that you can compare some of the choices. A CPA who is always around to take note of your problems and is accessible for regular financial decisions should be your preferred choice and will more than pay for themselves.

Lastly, don’t forget to look for additional services. Many firms also specialize in small business consulting, and they can offer help with financial decisions if needed. Also, you can seek assistance for a lot of smaller matters that may crop up during the course of business. Check online now and make your shortlist of local CPA firms for small businesses.

Benet Academy Redwings 40 34 Oswego Panthers

The Benet Academy Redwings boys basketball team defeated the Oswego High School Panthers 40–34 Saturday night at Benet’s historic Alumni Gym.

Located at Lisle, Illinois, United States, the gymnasium is home to Benet’s winning streak of 102 consecutive home games. The statewide record lasted from November 26, 1975 until January 24, 1987, when Naperville North High School defeated the Redwings 47–46. Benet also achieved 96 consecutive victories in the Western Suburban Catholic Conference at that time.

The school continued to use the facility, colloquially referred to as the “Old Gym” or the “Small Gym”, until the end of the 1994 season, when a newer athletic center was built on campus. It wasn’t until the late 1990’s when then-coach Marty Gaughan decided to play one game per year in the Alumni Gym to remind the school of its history. “There is just an electricity, and you feel it when you are in there,” said Gaughan, who coached the team from the 1989–1990 season to the 2007–2008 season.

This tradition continued until the 2006–2007 season, when the Redwings played against long-time rival St. Francis High School. Renovations prevented the gym from being used for athletic events over the past two seasons. This game was Benet coach Gene Heidkamp’s first opportunity to coach in the older gym. “So much history and winning has taken place there, which makes it so special. It is something the entire school community is excited about,” said Heidkamp.

Saturday’s game was played at the Alumni Gym at the request of Oswego assistant coach Jim Bagley. He wanted his son, senior forward Chris Bagley, to experience the same atmosphere he had as he played for Benet in the 1978–1979 season. Greg Kwiatkowski was also Jim Bagley’s teammate in Benet, and his son, Joe Kwiatkowski, was in the Panthers’ starting lineup as well. “Two of us who played at Benet together and now our son’s play on [Oswego] together and for them to have a chance to play where we played is going to be a great night and great experience,” said the senior Bagley.

Alumni Gym apparently still had its charm in the second half for the Redwings, whose 15–17 score at halftime worsened into an 11-point deficit in the third quarter. Benet fell behind with a score of 21–29 at the start of the fourth quarter. From that point, the Redwings’ defense began to kick in. Oswego could make only 2 of its 13 field goals in the third quarter. Benet’s offense also gained momentum as center Frank Kaminsky scored all of his 9 points in the fourth quarter. A shot by senior Mike Runger brought the score to 31–31, and two consecutive driving layups by David Sobolewski gave Benet the lead that would last for the rest of the game.

“We hit a dry spell there, but let’s give credit where credit is due. Defense wins games and they are the best defensive team we’ve faced all year,” said Oswego coach Kevin Schnable.

Benet’s Matt Parisi led his team with 15 points, and Sobolewski scored 12. Oswego’s Andrew Ziemnik also scored 12.

Red Shirts cause state of emergency in Thai capital

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 14-06-2022

Friday, April 9, 2010

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva declared a state of emergency in Bangkok, Thailand and its surrounding areas today with the intention of combating anti-government protesters. The proclamation was made shortly after a group of Red Shirts, the common name for a political group in Thailand, stormed parliament. Senior officials were airlifted in a Black Hawk helicopter while other ministers were forced to jump over a wall at the back of the compound. The protesters left without violence after meeting opposition from members of parliament in the building.

The declaration of a state of emergency terminated military regulations and suspended certain civil liberties; one of these being the right to public gatherings of more than five people. This is the fourth state of emergency declared in Thailand because of political turmoil. Although the army has used violence in the past, they have been largely reluctant to attack or disperse large mobs. With a disabled military, one soldier carrying an M16 rifle was forced to flee from protesters; his weapon was stolen from him after being wrestled to the ground. Prime Minister Abhisit and army officials understand that a violent clash between authorities and anti-government protesters would worsen the political climate.

The military has been cautious about taking violent action against the people, but these feelings have not been reciprocated by Red Shirts. Two policemen were harmed by a grenade explosion at the central headquarters of the Abhisit’s Democrat party in an altercation on Tuesday. These protesters view their prime minister as an “Oxford-trained economist” being controlled by an unelected cabal. The protesters have resolved that if another election went underway they would respect the results and call off further disturbances.

Police report drug haul seizure worth up to £30 million in Brownhills, England

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 14-06-2022

Monday, December 2, 2013

Police in the West Midlands in England today said nearly 200 kilograms worth of drugs with value possibly as great as £30 million (about US$49 million or €36 million) has been seized from a unit in the town of Brownhills. In what an officer described as “one of the largest [seizures] in the force’s 39 year history”, West Midlands Police reported recovering six big cellophane-wrapped cardboard boxes containing cannabis, cocaine, and MDMA (“ecstasy”) in a police raid operation on the Maybrook Industrial Estate in the town on Wednesday.

The impact this seizure will have on drug dealing in the region and the UK as a whole cannot be underestimated

The seized boxes, which had been loaded onto five freight pallets, contained 120 one-kilogram bags of cannabis, 50 one-kilogram bags of MDMA, and five one-kilogram bricks of cocaine. In a press release, West Midlands Police described what happened after officers found the drugs as they were being unloaded in the operation. “When officers opened the boxes they discovered a deep layer of protective foam chips beneath which the drugs were carefully layered”, the force said. “All the drugs were wrapped in thick plastic bags taped closed with the cannabis vacuum packed to prevent its distinctive pungent aroma from drawing unwanted attention.” Police moved the drugs via forklift truck to a flatbed lorry to remove them.

Detective Sergeant Carl Russell of West Midlands Police’s Force CID said the seizure was the largest he had ever made in the 24 years he has been in West Midlands Police and one of the biggest seizures the force has made since its formation in 1974. “The impact this seizure will have on drug dealing in the region and the UK as a whole cannot be underestimated”, he said. “The drugs had almost certainly been packed to order ready for shipping within Britain but possibly even further afield. Our operation will have a national effect and we are working closely with a range of law enforcement agencies to identify those involved in this crime at whatever level.”

Expert testing on the drugs is ongoing. Estimates described as “conservative” suggest the value of the drugs amounts to £10 million (about US$16.4 million or €12 million), although they could be worth as much as £30 million, subject to purity tests, police said.

Police arrested three men at the unit on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug. The men, a 50-year-old from Brownhills, a 51-year-old from the Norton area of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, and one aged 53 from Brownhills, have been released on bail as police investigations to “hunt those responsible” continue. West Midlands Police told Wikinews no person has yet been charged in connection with the seizure. Supplying a controlled drug is an imprisonable offence in England, although length of jail sentences vary according to the class and quantity of drugs and the significance of offenders’ roles in committing the crime.
