London Tube bombs went ‘bang bang bang, very close together’

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 17-02-2022

Saturday, July 9, 2005

After a press conference in London from the Metropolitan Police and Transport for London, more details are emerging about the attacks in London on Thursday.

Data from the Underground system’s power and control systems have revealed that all three bombs went off within 50 seconds of each other, at 8.50am, with the managing director of Transport for London, Tim O’Toole saying the bombs went “bang bang bang, very close together”.

The first bomb to detonate was on the Liverpool Street train soon after it left for Aldgate on the Circle line, seconds before the others. The blast tripped out the power system, visible in the control room. The first call the police received that morning reported “a bang” at Aldgate East, coming within a minute of the blast.

The Edgware Road train, leaving for Paddington and also on the Circle, exploded opposite a train coming from the other direction, making people think at first that it was a derailment. The first call to the Police spoke not of an explosion, but of a person falling under the wheels of the train. The confirmation of a bomb did not come until 9.17am, but by that time the emergency services were already on scene.

Transport for London’s new TrackerNet software is fully opertational on the Circle line, which allows for precise tracking of trains, but is not yet fully installed on the Piccadilly line. The first indication of the Piccadilly line bomb was when the tunnel telephone system wires were cut by the blast, an event logged by other software. The cutting of the lines then tripped out the track current. The tunnel itself suffered only slight damage and is safe, but the train – which was packed with commuters heading for Russell Square – is very badly damaged.

London Underground declared a ‘code Amber’ within minutes, moving trains to platforms and opening all doors. A ‘code Red’ – full evacuation – was set at around 9.15am. O’Toole described the decision to evacuate as being “very grave, not taken lightly”. When questioned as to whether everything possible had been done on the day to save lives, the managing director of Transport for London was “very proud” of the choices made that morning.

As investigations continue, all bodies have been removed from the sub-surface Circle line trains, but the carriages themselves are still in situ while a painstaking forensic investigation takes place.

Currently, work is on-going to retrieve bodies and forensic evidence from the carriage of the train in the deep tunnel of the Piccadilly line near King’s Cross. Teams of rescue workers looking for human remains are working alongside forensics experts in a “meticulous” search to find evidence.

Conditions are described as being very difficult, with high temperatures and lots of dust. Work was halted over Friday night when conditions became too bad, and resumed this morning. Efforts have been made to improve the ventilation.

Work will continue throughout tonight and possibly into Sunday. The exact number of bodies still in the wrecked carriage is unknown.

Access from King’s Cross is impossible, so workers are taking the longer route from Russell Square station to get to the front of the train.

Police have revealed that the bombs were ‘high explosives’ – not homemade. However they are declining to be specific about their composition as the information could be useful when they interrogate suspects.

Police will not confirm or deny if any parts of a timer have been found, but have said that “any device will now be in a million pieces”. Police believe the use of timers more likely than suicide bombings as the blasts were so closely timed, but are not ruling out anything.

Prisons in New Zealand to introduce mobile phone jamming technology

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 16-02-2022

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

A successful 12-month trial of mobile phone blocking technology in New Zealand prisons has just been completed, according to the Minister of Corrections, Vodafone and Telecom.

Corrections Minister, Damien O’Conner, described this technology as a world first and a significant milestone for the Department of Corrections.

The mobile phone blocking technology is being implemented to help prevent the growing problem of inmates using mobile phones which they are currently prohibited from. One case included a Mt Eden prisoner using a mobile phone to organise NZ$1 million worth of methamphetamine (commonly known in New Zealand as P) being smuggled in. Other cases at Mount Eden Prison included posting of pxts on the Internet, and ordering meals of KFC.

Vodafone, Telecom and the Department of Corrections signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) stating that they will help prevent the use of mobile phones inside prisons. In a joint statement Greg Patchell, Group Technology Officer for Telecom, and Tom Chignell, Corporate Affairs General Manager for Vodafone, said, “With the technical trials completed, and the MoU Agreement in place, work can now begin to apply the most effective technologies to combat unauthorised cellphone use in each prison site in New Zealand.”

Hawke’s Bay Prison will be the first prison to get the new technology due to its high level of gang members. The technology will be implemented in the next six weeks.

However, some prisons, including Mt Eden Prison, might not have this technology implemented due to different characteristics of each prison. Simon Power, Corrections Spokesperson for the National Party, said, “The technology won’t work around all prisons, the most notable being Mt Eden, which has had significant contraband problems.” Patchell and Chignell said, “…we have now identified a package of technical solutions which the Department of Corrections believes could be deployed with effectiveness in some of its facilities.”

The prison and if the mobile phone service of anyone living near a prison will be affected, will determine the type of mobile phone jamming technology used.

As well as the new mobile phone jamming technology, new legislation is being written which will mean if an inmate, prison contractor, or staff member is found carrying a mobile phone, they will face either a fine of $5,000 or a year in jail. As well as tighter security of prisons, including only one point of access into them.

Tips To Win At Casino Slot Machines

Filed Under (Betting) by Admin on 15-02-2022

Do you know what the Random Number Generator or RNG term means? If you already have some experience playing slot machines then you’ve probably heard the term. Briefly, the RNG defines the automatic payout of every single spin. Your will doesn’t count here. Pure luck! Note, slot machine with a huge payout possibilities doesn’t guarantee you subsequent winning spins. Well, here in the article I’ve listed all useful tips for casino slots fans to enhance and facilitate your gaming experience.

1. Try Demo Play

Players sometimes underestimate the benefits of free demo play. Demo mode allows players to play any type of slot machines for fun and choose the best one for real money play afterwards. Few online casino platforms offer free play mode on their websites. They perceive another goal – to encourage you to deposit on your casino account. Yet there are hundreds of so-called affiliate websites which have hundreds of thousands free demo games with endless coin balance (for fun of course). Be attentive and study carefully each real money gambling website before your 1st deposit.

2. Stay Away from Boring Slots

Ok, tastes and gambling choices differ from person to person. Though there are slot games of any possible type with different payouts. From the very beginning specify your own gambling intentions: what are you expecting from chosen slot game? Do you prefer 3D graphics and bright design to the theme or payout opportunities with simple game layout and rules.

3. More Pay lines = More Winnings

Online casino slot machines have all possible numbers of pay lines: from one up to 1024 ways to win. It’s not a secret that more pay lines the slot game has, the more chances of better winnings it has. Furthermore, some slot games come with great jackpots or special winnings in case of all/some pay lines got active. Choose slot games with more pay lines and try to bet on all of them. Event the min bet on all pay lines will work out.

4. Choose Progressive Slot Machines

Onlineslots with progressive jackpots have gained the great popularity among gambling games’ fans. To make it clear. If the jackpot linked to the gameplay of a single slot it has fixed amount of credits and payouts. Such slot belongs to the non-progressive games type. In case of progressive jackpot slots the jackpot amount depends on all gamblers’ bets who have played this slot. The more bets player makes the higher jackpot amount gets. All bets are added.

5. Beware of Generous Jackpots

Who doesn’t want to hit the largest jackpot ever? Of course, it’s tempting. Do not forget though about certain rules to make it come true. You’ll have to play with all pay lines and make the highest bet. Also do not forget about the RNG concept. And finally, casino slot machines with lower jackpots award players jackpots far more frequently than those with huge ones.

6. The Role of Game Symbols Role

If the game provides many various symbols it automatically creates more winning combos per single spin regardless of the bet amount. Plus the more symbols means more special features with great payouts. Also the multiple number of symbols decreases your chances to line up more winning combos.

7. Pay Attention to The Paytable

We highly recommend you to carefully learn the paytable conditions and make sure you’ve understood everything properly. Lots of slot games deliver very specific rules which cannot be omitted. Looking through paytable you’ll learn about features, bonus games/rounds winning combo activation.

8. Define Your Bankroll & Bets

Each slot game has the panel to control bets, coin denominations applicable per line, spin. E.g. if you can choose between 1 and 25 coin denominations with 50 pay lines, you can bet 0.01 (min) and up to 500 (max). Before visiting the online casino decide the size of your bankroll for the further game and when to play with highest bets and all pay lines active.

9. Learn to Win, Learn to Lose

Slots are by default games of chance, skill have nothing to do with slots. Admit it as the fact. Get ready to lose. Set up the budget for the game, specify how much money you can afford to lose with no regrets. Do not let your emotions control you. Do not borrow money. It’s an initially bad idea and wrong gaming strategy. Remember, gambling is fun, not the way to earn for living via the Internet. Know when to stop if luck is not on your side.

10. Choose ‘n’ Use Casino Bonuses Wisely

Nowadays online casinos have welcome or sign up casino bonuses for new players. They offer Free Spins for a single slot game or set of slots by one of the providers available on the website. Winning chances automatically get increased. Look through bonus terms of use, wagering requirements and use them appropriately. Use 100% out of them!

11. Slots Are Games of Chance

You’ll find dozens of articles on how to win at the slot machine. Any of these articles obviously doesn’t guarantee you results and fast winnings. Every spin you make both leads either to win or to lose. There is no golden rule on how many spins or how many bet in a row you have to make in order to win. Everything is predefined by RNG. It’s a big mistake to believe that after the series of unsuccessful spins you’ll manage to turn luck on your side. It’s totally a matter of chance.

‘A very giant struggle’: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s warning of oncoming economic difficulties

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 08-02-2022

Thursday, December 2, 2021

In a talk made to officials at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Workers’ Party of Korea held on Wednesday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un warned officials of a coming “very giant struggle” in the economic field, reported Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun. Present at the meeting, which was held in the headquarters building of the Central Committee, were high-ranking party members and military officials, including Party Secretariat Secretary Jo Yong-won and Premier Kim Tok-hun.

The meeting, which had been convened to discuss details on the upcoming fourth Plenary Meeting of the eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), later released its resolution on said issue, with the last third of December being the chosen time frame for the Plenary Meeting and a review of Party work having been placed on the agenda, among other subjects.

At the Politburo meeting, Kim Jong Un said that “the successes registered by us show that the overall affairs that had been planned to lay a foundation for the economic development of the country and the improvement of people’s living standard have been vigorously pushed forward”, praising successes made in the agricultural and construction fields.

Kim followed by saying that “next year will be an important one as we should wage a very giant struggle as much as we did this year”, and that plans made for next year should “be dynamic, onward, scientific and detailed, and consolidate the foundation for implementing the five-year plan.”

North Korea’s economy has suffered as a result of various factors over the last two years, with a combination of COVID-19 border closures and heavier sanctions topping off a typhoon and heavy flooding. According to Al Jazeera, UN agencies are reporting food and electricity shortages which have been worsened by economic sanctions.
