Dog Rescue Adoption}

Filed Under (Dog Rescue) by Admin on 08-07-2020

Submitted by: Steve Evans

A few months back, I brought home a Dog Rescue Society adoption dog.

I feel like I was allowed to rush into it without enough cooling off time. I saw a dog rescue adoption advertisement in my local paper, I took to one photo of one of their dogs and the image stuck in my brain. The next day I happened to be travelling past the kennels with some spare time in hand. I was tempted and I took a look around and I just couldn’t say no to one dog I saw, despite the fact that he was only a mongrel of doubful origin and and must have been greatly cross bred.

But, how could you say no to such a cute dog with such wide sad eyes, sitting alone in a pen waiting for someone to come and pick him up. Animal shelter rescue operations know how to pull at your heartstrings they can’t help wanting to help the dogs to find a home, it is human nature. Nevertheless, I should have thought twice before I went in for this dog rescue adoption. It really was not a wise choice for me.

You see, dog adoption rescue is all well and good for the first week or two. The dog I got was really friendly and followed my every move around the house.

The trouble is that it was a little bit older than I wanted. After a week it dawned on me I would have to take care of this dog for the rest of its life. I already have a Doberman not the easiest or smallest of dogs and I would have to train this second dog, take care of it, and keep it out of trouble all of its life.

Now with a puppy this would not have been daunting, but this dog had not been schooled at all. It did not have a clue about training, and would not even answer to its name.

One of my friends told me that I could take the dog rescue adoption dog back, and give up on the whole thing, but I did not want to do that. I felt like the poor dog had already been through too many things. Although this dog was only about three years old, it had by all accounts already been in the kennels a year back, and had been found wandering on the road.

I think that dogs are more like humans than we would like to think, (even mongrels!). They are affected by the way that they are treated. If they are treated like property, shuffled around, and not allowed to bond to anyone who owns them, they will develop serious nervous problems. It seemed to me that if I returned this pooch to the dog rescue adoption centre just as it was getting used to me, I would be betraying it. I would be damning it to a life of misery. It was already so insecure that it would not let me out of its sight all day around the house.

However, after a while I did manage to drum some basic obedience training into the mongrel. My Doberman Pinscher helped. I think this was because the new dog could see the obedient responses my Doberman gives to my command.

Then, my luck came when I met a friend while out dog walking about three months back. We had walked together several times since I had him, and from the start, she had really taken a fancy to him, and him to her for some reason. However, she had her own dog and no inclination to take on another.

I was at first surprised that this time we met she had no dog with her. Soon after we got talking she explained her sadness that her pet had lost all appetite and had virtually stopped eating over a period of about two weeks. She had taken the animal to the local vet, and he had found a cancer which was well advanced. In only a little over a fortnight her dog had died, and now she was walking alone and very much wanting for canine company.

When I realised her grief – and don’t underestimate the depth of grieving which can occur for a dog – I really wanted to help her, and I knew that I now had a much better behaved dog due to my training of him than the animal I had taken on. That mongrel was no longer a liability on walks or likely to run-off in an uncontrolled fashion. He was no longer uncontrollable and at risk of causing an accident, or misbehaving out of control.

So, I offered her the chance that she might take him on, and she was delighted. The first while he was on loan to her, but that soon changed, and now I doubt she would give him away for any amount of money!

Finally, though, I would like to say that I am a quiet kind of a guy. It takes a while for me to get to know people.

However, in handing over that mutt I got to know that lady rather well. It created a common bond between us, which became a friendship. Well, I have to say we are really enjoying each other’s company now. It could just be that I didn’t truly get that dog away out of my life at all. It may be I just got me a life partner… and that dog never left at all… not bad eh! That’s dog rescue for you!

UK animal welfare group prosecutes woman who threw cat into bin

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 08-07-2020

Monday, September 20, 2010

A woman who was recorded throwing a cat into an outdoor rubbish bin has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty. 45-year-old Mary Bale, from Coventry, West Midlands, England, United Kingdom, was recorded on a security camera allegedly giving the tabby cat — Lola, aged four — a stroking and looking at her surroundings before taking the animal and dumping it into the wheelie bin before walking away from the scene.

The cat was discovered in the bin fifteen hours later by her owners, 24-year-old Stephanie Andrews-Mann and her husband, 26-year-old Darryl. She appeared to be unharmed. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals — otherwise known by the abbreviation RSPCA — have now brought charges against Mary Bale under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. Judith Haw, a spokesperson for the RSPCA, has stated: “The RSPCA has taken the case to court as two alleged offences have been committed: of causing unnecessary suffering to a cat and of not providing the animal with a suitable environment. As criminal proceedings are now active the RSPCA will not be issuing any further statements or completing interview requests until conclusion of the court case.”

Having received a court summons from the RSPCA on Sunday, Bale is anticipated to make an appearance at Coventry Magistrates Court on October 19, 2010 at 1000 BST (0900 UTC). Bale had previously released a public apology. “I cannot explain why I did this,” it read. “It is completely out of character and I certainly did not intend to cause any distress to Lola or her owners.”

In a video available on Sky News Online Stephanie Andrews-Mann spoke about this incident and explained that “we thought it was probably someone coming from a night in the pub that thought it’d be hilarious to put a cat in the bin. We didn’t expect to find what it was we found.” When asked what she thought about the woman who committed this act, Stephanie commented: “I don’t know. I don’t know what could possibly go through her head to want to put a cat in a bin.” Stephanie’s husband Darryl explained: “It was basically after we’d found Lola in the bin that we played back the video footage and seen, obviously, what had gone on, what had happened.” Describing this act, he expressed: “I think it’s disgusting. I don’t know how anyone could treat, um, a harmless animal that can’t defend itself, just do something like that to it.”

Pet parrot saves owners’ lives

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 07-07-2020

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

It turns out that dogs may not be the only ‘man’s best friend.’ A parrot in Muncie, Indiana is being credited with saving the lives of its owners.

According to the owner 33-year-old Shannon Conwell along with his 9-year-old son were watching television when they both fell asleep on the living room couch when a fire began to spread through the house around 3:00 a.m. on Friday October 19.

The Amazon, yellow-headed Parrot named Peanut reportedly imitates the sounds of several objects and began to emit one very similar to a fire alarm, waking the family from their sleep.

“He was really screaming his head off. I grabbed my son and my bird and got out of the house,” said Conwell who also said that the fire alarm was also going off, but the bird woke her and her son. Conwell said that there were several pieces of medical equipment inside the house that also make a lot of noise. The equipment was there due to an accidental finger amputation which occurred only a few hours prior to the fire.

A bedroom, the kitchen and the dining room were all severely damaged in the fire, but no one was injured or killed. The fire department says that they are currently investigating the incident and have not said what the cause was.

Finding Quality Industrial Weighing Equipment

Filed Under (Nutrition) by Admin on 07-07-2020

byAlma Abell

Finding the right weighing scales for business should be simple and, in many cases, it is. However, finding a high quality weighing scale manufacturer is also important when it comes to finding the right scales for your business. In many industries, the weighing process is an essential part of the firm’s core business, so making the right choices and the right investment is advisable.

Industry specialists

Industrial scales come in all shapes and sizes and are designed to suit a huge range of industries. Some weighing scale manufacturers operate in specific industries – medical, scientific or food processing – while others operate across a range of industries. The latter can be a sensible choice for most industries as this means the firm should have the knowledge, experience and expertise to help you choose the right scales for your process.

Ongoing support

Many manufacturers offer maintenance and servicing options; for those who rely on their weighing equipment for day to day operational purposes this can be a significant factor in choosing the right manufacturer. Constant use is likely to mean regular maintenance checks are required and repairs will also be needed on an occasional basis. Given that industrial scales are likely to be a significant investment, it’s worth ensuring your scales remain in perfect working order.

Future proofing

There are several factors that will influence the capacity of scale that you’ll need. As an investment, it’s worth choosing a capacity that is higher than your current needs. This has two advantages; firstly it offers flexibility if load requirements change in the future and secondly it avoids overloading scales on a regular basis (and consequent damage or loss of accuracy).

Reputation counts

The quality of a manufacturer’s products and their reputation and experience within the industry are essential factors to consider when choosing the right firm to supply your weight equipment needs. While it’s likely that well respected and experienced firms may offer more expensive solutions, it’s important to remember that your scales are likely to be essential to your ability to make profit and that their lifespan is a crucial aspect of the purchasing decision.

Specialist knowledge

Today most firms will offer a range of scales and weighing equipment that can work within automated process. A firm that has experience and technical knowledge in this field will be essential if this is a requirement of your process.

The bottom line

While price will, in many cases, be a significant factor, weighing equipment can be a crucial element within your process and, as in so many areas in life, paying the highest price is likely to make for the best long term investment.

Hardy Process Solutions is headquartered in San Diego, California and the firm is renowned for its inyears.

Brazilian tribe is neither a new discovery nor a hoax

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 01-07-2020

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

In late May to early June of 2008, news broke that a previously undiscovered indigenous tribe had been found near the border between Brazil and Peru. Worldwide media was quick to publish the story and the accompanying photographs taken by José Carlos Meirelles. The photos showed people in full body paint aiming bows at the overhead aircraft from which the pictures were taken. Wikinews covered the story as well.

In its Sunday edition, British newspaper The Observer had a story called “Secret of the ‘lost’ tribe that wasn’t” which was about this “discovery” and revealed that the tribe had in fact been known to scientists, including Fundação Nacional do Índio (FUNAI), the Brazilian protection agency for Indian interests.

Some of the media got very carried away and started talking about undiscovered tribes

After this revelation, media newswires branded the original story a hoax. These hoax claims spread nearly as quickly as the original story. Rapidly, news sites even claimed that the photos were fake. The true story, however, is more complicated than that.

The Observer’s article featured an interview with José Carlos Meirelles, one of a handful so-called sertanistas that work for the FUNAI. These are field agents that map the areas of uncontacted indigenous peoples, so that their habitat can be protected. He admitted that his desire to protect these tribes had caused him to overstep his mission.

When given the use of an aircraft to seek out new tribes, Meirelles instead flew over an area where he knew a tribe had been observed decades ago. Ultimately, he was hoping to prove that FUNAI’s policy of not contacting the tribes they observe is better for the tribes. With this flight he hoped to find evidence that the tribe, discovered long ago, was better off for not being contacted.

“When I saw them painted red, I was satisfied, I was happy,” he said. “Because painted red means they are ready for war, which to me says they are happy and healthy defending their territory.”

The photos are of a real tribe, long known to Meirelles and other scientists within FUNAI, but protected under Brazilian law.

Meirelles says he has no regrets, because he just wanted to prove these kind of tribes exist and deserve protection. He said that Peruvian President Alan García had claimed that these tribes were imaginary and that he needed to prove they existed. In doing so, he violated FUNAI policies by flying over their area and taking pictures. Both are prohibited. Meirelles claims he will protect the exact location of the tribe’s territory, even if tortured.

When I saw them painted red, I was satisfied, I was happy

Former president of FUNAI, Sydney Possuelo, agreed that the publication of the photos was necessary to quell the doubt about the very existence such uncontacted indigenous peoples.

Survival International, a human rights organisation formed in 1969 that campaigns for the rights of indigenous tribal and uncontacted peoples, admits complicity in the distribution of the original story. Survival International was instrumental in getting the original story international attention.

Nevertheless, Survival International said it did not mislead media because it never described the tribe as “lost”.

“These Indians are in a reserve expressly set aside for the protection of uncontacted tribes: they were hardly ‘unknown’,” said Stephen Corry, director of Survival International in a statement. “What is, and remains, true, is that so far as is known these Indians have no peaceful contact with outsiders.”

“Some of the media got very carried away and started talking about undiscovered tribes,” explains Fiona Watson of Survival International. “There was this interpretation that this was a completely new tribe, completely undiscovered, without bothering to check with sources … Neither the Brazilian government nor Survival has ever used that word, and ‘uncontacted’ means they don’t have any contact with outsiders.”

Former adult film actress forced to leave teaching job again

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 30-06-2020

Friday, March 11, 2011

Tera Myers, a former actress in pornographic films, has left her position as a science teacher at Parkway North High School in St. Louis County, Missouri after her past was revealed by a student. This marks the second such controversy involving Myers, also known under the names Tericka Dye and the stage name Rikki Anderson. She was suspended by Kentucky’s McCracken County Public Schools system in 2006 after her career in pornography was made public.

Don Senti, interim superintendent of the district, said Myers was on administrative leave from her position at the school at her own request. Myers’ request, granted “out of respect for her privacy and that of her family,” came after a student inquired about her pornographic career. The district said Myers passed background checks before being hired as a teacher in 2007, but it did not know about her past until the student found out about it online, because her career in the pornography industry was legal. A Parkway representative said the Kentucky school at which Myers last worked was contacted in 2007 to verify her references, but no mention of her suspension or stint in pornography was provided.

Myers will continue to be paid until the end of the semester, at which time she is to leave the Parkway School District. “We’re surprised, very surprised,” said Parkway spokesperson Paul Tandy. “At the same time we feel for her and her family. We do believe she has tried to move on with her life … Unfortunately, even though it happened fifteen years ago, [the video] is still there.” According to Tandy, Dye “was concerned about the impact it would have in the building,” and, on March 4, informed the school’s principal of her past after being asked by the student. Myers also was the coach of the girls’ volleyball at Parkway North High School.

Myers previously taught at Reidland High School in Paducah, Kentucky, and was suspended in 2006 after a student there discovered her pornographic career. That May, Myers defended herself, saying, “Anybody who has been in my classroom could tell you how much I love teaching and how much I love these students, and that should be what matters more than anything in my past.” Known as Tericka Dye at the time, she protested against her dismissal and even appeared on the “Dr. Phil” talk show.

Myers said she became involved in the adult industry after working as an impoverished exotic dancer in California.

Marketing In Phoenix: Fourth Generation Websites Are The Real Deal

Filed Under (Industrial Packaging Supplies And Materials) by Admin on 30-06-2020

Submitted by: Allan Starr

It seems apparent to us here at Marketing Partners of Arizona that we now have seen three generations of websites, and now have entered a fourth generation. Come with me now as we revisit the progression of this phenomenon:

First Generation It was, just get a website up, and you are among the elite marketers. Content was immaterial, just having one legitimized your business and told others you definitely were with it. The early examples, even those handled by marketing agencies or advertising firms were little more than flash pages. These online flyers contained little more than basic, bare bones information, but they offered the perpetrator great credibility. This was especially strong when accompanied by a URL on business cards, brochures and stationery. Company operatives would eagerly ask anyone within earshot, Have you looked at our website? Can you estimate how long it s been since you were asked, Do you have a website? Why, today, that would be an insult!

Second Generation These were more comprehensive, and actually ushered in the requirement for some navigation acumen on the part of the webmaster team, whether that be led by an internal staff member, business owner or outside public relations or Web design firm. Little more than electronic, print-oriented brochures, they, nonetheless, were characterized by a certain degree of sophistication, particularly in how the material was organized and presented. Now, entities who heretofore were price prohibited from producing four-color printed pieces for themselves and clients, could include colorful displays amidst the copy blocks.

Third Generation Indeed, in this phase websites had come of age with flash, blog windows, videos, sound, e-commerce capabilities, imbedded forms and no small amount of dazzle. Unfortunately, in the craze to be state-of-the-art it also signaled the birth of the website on steroids, particularly in the area of a feverish urge for information overload and to a regrettable degree unintended redundancy and irrelevance.

Fourth Generation The trend in today s websites, at least those we are asked by Marketing Partners clients to produce are far more basic. As the bloom has come off the overkill rose, website developers have been told, Keep it short, simple, but clear and strong. This, to my mind, is a stunning example of Back to the Future simplicity a new age of directness and meaningful content. Today s best practices websites seem to be trending in the direction that amounts to a refreshing backlash against the monstrosities that arose in the previous generation of website excess.

How is it around your business? I know our diverse web clients are now demanding clarity of message, super-clean layouts and calls to action. This is combined with a perceived need to include Contact Us response devices that are designed to provide a brief but adequate enough amount of information in order to help clearly determine respondents needs and wishes.

Shakespeare said, Brevity is the soul of wit, and marketers have finally come to realize that their online visitors don t want to devote much time to getting the drift of what is offered in terms of their own best interests.
